Fundraiser:

Replace the Roof 2024!

The Center for Arts and Learning (CAL) is a nonprofit community arts hub in Montpelier, VT. We maintain a 22,000 square foot facility dedicated to fostering learning and creativity in all disciplines. We rent private studios to artists so they can have a secure place to practice and produce their work, meet with clients, and be in community with one another. We maintain two art galleries and cooperate with the Art Resource Association to provide a permanent exhibit space for their members while also curating special shows for unique showing opportunities.

In 2023, we created The Pull Room, a fully-equipped community printmaking space inside our building. Housed here is a floor-standing Whelan ExpressPro etching press and two smaller etching press. We will soon be able to offer screenprinting to the community. The Pull Room is a membership-based operation that also provides classes to anyone interested from a slate of professional teaching artists. Small groups and classrooms also explore their creativity in this space.

We work in collaboration with our partners at the T.W. Wood Gallery and Monteverdi Music School. We purchased this facility in 2014 and seek to replace the roof on the West Wing. This is where all six open music rooms are located. Members of the community are offered drop-in practice passes, private lessons with the faculty, and group practice space as well. The age of this roof is unknown, but it has leaked in the past. We have received a $25,000 grant from the Vermont Arts Council for which we are trying to raise matching funds. This replacement work will occur in the summer of 2024.

Just Food Hub

We are raising awareness in our local communities about real organic and fair-traded food, worker coops, and corporate consolidation in the food system. Our products include high-quality and affordable artisan food like coffee, chocolate, tea, mangos, and hot sauce from cooperative farms in the global south and small US organic farms.

Just Food Hub’s mission is to offer community groups, like The Center for Arts and Learning, a regular fundraiser for their valuable work in our communities. We do this by selling these wonderful foods online and giving the profits to the community group. The Center for Arts and Learning receives 25% of all purchases when you click Center for Arts and Learning at checkout. We offer free delivery of your purchases in 18 towns including Barre, East Montpelier, Marshfield, Montpelier, and Plainfield and can ship them elsewhere for a $10 charge.

Just Food Hub collaborates with Equal Exchange, a worker coop that develops a noncapitalist people-centered food system that brings food justice and integrity to the US family table. Equal Exchange endorses organic and sustainable farming practices and democratic and worker-owned farming cooperatives throughout the Global South, Palestine, and the United States.

In addition to helping you eat well and building strong local economies and community groups, we are working to address the climate crisis and food insecurity. Join us and be the change you want to see in the world.

Orders of $75 or more will come with a free natural cotton shopping bag.
