Migrant Justice

Fundraiser:

Help Us Work for Economic Justice!

Migrant Justice’s mission is to build the voice, capacity, and power of the farmworker community in Vermont and beyond to organize for economic justice and human rights. The organization gathers the community to discuss and analyze shared problems and to envision collective solutions. Members deepen their skills in community education and organizing for long-term systemic change.

Farmworkers meet monthly in community assemblies to discuss shared problems, identify needs, and develop strategies. The leadership body, the Farmworker Coordinating Committee, meets regularly to develop, implement, and evaluate campaigns and strategies in partnership with staff organizers.

Migrant Justice’s grassroots organizing model has built a powerful movement that has won a string of victories protecting immigrant rights and improving conditions for farmworkers, including:

  • Passing legislation in Vermont to expand access to driver’s licenses to all residents regardless of immigration status
  • Creating and implementing policies around the state to stop police discrimination and prohibit collaboration between police and federal immigration agencies
  • Organizing to protect community members targeted by immigration agencies and successfully stopping their deportations, including through a federal First Amendment lawsuit against ICE
  • Signing an agreement with Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream—after years of public campaigning—to implement the worker-driven Milk with Dignity Program in the company’s supply chain. Milk with Dignity is transforming the dairy industry and protecting the rights of hundreds of farmworkers in Vermont and New York.

Just Food Hub

We are raising awareness in our local communities about real organic and fair-traded food, worker coops, and corporate consolidation in the food system. Our products include high-quality and affordable artisan food like coffee, chocolate, tea, cheese, and hot sauce from cooperative farms in the Global South and small US organic farms.

Just Food Hub’s mission is to offer community groups, like Migrant Justice, a regular fundraiser for their valuable work in our communities. We do this by selling these wonderful foods online and giving the profits to the community group. Migrant Justice receives 25% of all purchases when you click Migrant Justice at checkout. We offer free delivery of your purchases in 18 towns including Barre, East Montpelier, Marshfield, Montpelier, and Plainfield and can ship them elsewhere for a $10 charge.

Just Food Hub collaborates with Equal Exchange, a worker coop that develops a noncapitalist people-centered food system that brings food justice and integrity to the US family table. Equal Exchange endorses organic and sustainable farming practices and democratic and worker-owned farming cooperatives throughout the Global South, Palestine, and the United States.

In addition to helping you eat well and building strong local economies and community groups, we are working to address the climate crisis and food insecurity. Join us and be the change you want to see in the world.

Orders of $75 or more will come with a free natural cotton shopping bag.
